Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
Posted on May 23rd, 2008

Ah, Castlevania, love or hate, it’s still a popular series that has a fairly strong fanbase. To those of you who do enjoy the series, please proceed to jumping for joy: A new installment has been announced.

At a pre-E3 even, Konami announced Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia for the Nintendo-DS.

Usually in this series, you control a silver-haired pretty boy. This time you control a pretty… girl. Yes, a nice change in pace. You’ll have a female lead in this game. Her name? Shanoa. She’s a member of the Order of Ecclesia, which have taken up the task of fighting Drac.

This young woman uses a system known as the Glyph system. Glyphs are attached to various parts of her body and she’ll be able to use them to aid in defeating foes that get it her way.

The artwork is being done by Ayami Kojima, which should please some fans of the series.

No set release date has currently been announced for the game.

Platinum Games announces Infinite Line
Posted on May 15th, 2008

Platinum games, a company formed of former Capcom and Clover staff members, have recently announced a new Nintendo DS RPG entitled Infinite Line. Infinite Line will be directed by Hifumi Kouno, the mastermind behind the Clock Tower series.

This game will be a Sci-Fi adventure, featuring many different planets that each have different types of people and a unique culture on each of them, kinda like in Rogue Galaxy. So, obviously, it can take quite a bit of time to travel from destination to destination, so to counter this, the developers will be implementing a warp system that will allow a player to instantly warp to their desired location. Not only will you be able to travel planets, but there will be the ability to build your own spacecraft. Each craft will require a blueprint in this game, but don’t worry, because there are plenty of these to go around, with 150+ said to be in the game.

In this game, there will be 200+ characters, each unique, and some of them will even be able to join the crew of your spacecraft! There will also be a wireless “PvP” mode in which you can battle other people’s characters on your DS WiFi connection.

Infinite Line, although with no defined release date, is expected to come out sometime next year. Look for it!

Marvelous Announces Avalon Code
Posted on May 9th, 2008

Marvelous, a Japanese company, has announced a new RPG slated for release on the Nintendo DS entitled Avalon Code. This cute RPG, with graphics that could rival those of the recent Square-Enix DS remakes of Final Fantasy III and IV, is currently around 75% complete.

In this game, the player has a choice of which lead character they want to take - either a male or a female. The male protagonist is named Yumiru, while the female is named Tia. The story itself revolves around said characters in a dying world who has been given the task of collecting information to put into a book of prophecies. This book, apparently, has some special powers that gives the owner of it an immense amount of powers, making them almost “god-like.” By using this book, one can essentially rewrite history, changing many aspects of the world.

Not much is known about this game, which is pretty obvious, but a small amount of information about battles is given. Battles will take place on the top DS screen while the book of prophecies will display on the bottom. This book, no doubt, will be controllable by the stylus and the player will be able to use its powers in battle.

At the moment, Avalon Code is schedules for release in Japan late this year. No US release date has been announced currently.

In the last issue of Famitsu, it was revealed that Yasunori Mitsuda, Masato Kato, and Kunihiko Tanaka [former members of the Xenogears team] will be teaming up with SEGA to produce a brand new Nintendo DS turn-based RPG entitled World Destruction. Sadly, nothing is really known about this game, other than the facts stated above. It is planned for a worldwide release sometime this summer, but only time will tell if that holds true.
